Despite the moderate experiences in academia (from aPhD to a PI) as well as private life (starting a young family, career break, etc), Shuxia has never had the opportunity to talk about the thrills and the challenges in this journey. Until she met the Marion Matters (chair of women in science at TU/e, a mother of three and vice dean of Department of Electrical Engineering), when she quickly realized how powerful a role model is and how wonderful to have someone to talk to.
Without thinking twice, Shuxia decided this is the right time to start to share her own experiences. Since February, Shuxia took on the role of the board member, representing the department of Applied Physics in the university-wide Women in Science network (WISE). At WISE, Shuxia will be fostering contacts with other departments and promoting female researchers. She is in particular motivated to contribute to promote the awareness of equal opportunities as well as to support in professional and personal development, such as, starting an academia career and writing first research grant applications.
